Welcome to Week 18’s Weekly Rewind We enjoyed reading about Jack and the Beanstalk this week. We learned about the various characters and how each of them had a different point of view. We made class posters about the characters from last week's reading of Cinderella and compared them to this week's story. During math this week we focused on two new strategies to help us solve the tricky factors of 6, 7, 8 and 9. We used our 5's facts to help us break apart larger factors into smaller ones. We also worked with the Distributive Property. Our Family Heritage projects are coming along great! So far we have discussed our interviews, picked an activity and planned out our project steps. In writing, we learned how to write an opinion paper. Using our stories from this week, we wrote about who we thought was the villain in Jack and the Beanstalk. We also started Module 3 in MAth. WE are still investigating multiplication and division but we are now focusing on factors of 6, 7,8 and 9. Some new strategies that we have learned are Tape Diagrams and our Fives Facts. The class seems to be really excited about our December Project. Family Heritage! More to come about that in the upcoming weeks. Take a look at our photos and videos from this week. Each kiddo got to pick an animal that they want to research for their November project this week! Through their research, they will construct a powerpoint presentation and build an animal habitat to present during our Natural History Museum Gran Opening on November 21st. We hope to see you there. It's all about the multiplication strategies! There are so many strategies to use for multiplication. This week we focused on repeated addition and the Distributive Property. The kids took tricky factors: 6, 7,8 and 9 and broke them down into factors that we know - 1, 2, 3,4. They had to show their work using a distributed array. This is an exciting Non-Fiction unit all about animals. Over the next 3 weeks, we will read about a variety of animals and their adaptations that help them to survive. Equal groups, objects, totals, and products: these are all terms that we are learning this week to help us understand multiplication.
