Happy Summer Vacation Everyone!
It has been my privilege to teach your child during this past school year. Your child has become one of “my kids,” and I will miss them so much!
Yet, as I send your child forward to 4th grade, I feel such a sense of pride in knowing they are ready to move on! We have worked as a classroom family and learned so much this year!
I wish you and your child a wonderful and well-deserved summer break that will refuel and refresh him/her for the coming school year. It is great to relax and unwind during that time.
However, it is common for students to backslide somewhat during this time on the learning that took place during the school year. For that reason, I give you some simple tips to help prevent such a backslide.
Try to maintain the learning without making it seem like school work. Keep it simple and fun. Here are some examples:
I hope these tips are beneficial to you and your child. Have a great summer!
Best wishes,
Mrs. Dvorak

However, it is common for students to backslide somewhat during this time on the learning that took place during the school year. For that reason, I give you some simple tips to help prevent such a backslide.
Try to maintain the learning without making it seem like school work. Keep it simple and fun. Here are some examples:
- Read with your children every day or as often as possible for just a brief amount of time. You might take trips to the library and let them find new books that interest them. Let them read for a while, then you read for a while. Kids really do like it when you give them that special time. -This time can be used for the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge (if you need your child's log in information let me know I can send it to you).
- Surprise them with a special notebook. Suggest to them how much fun it might be if they keep a “diary” of their summer days.Set aside a special time each day for them to write and share with you their thoughts of the day. Then, without sounding teachery, ask them if they can find anything in their sentence(s) that might need fixing (capitals, periods, spelling, etc.) Guide them to find revisions. Make it fun, no pressure! Praise for the thoughts and writing skills.
- To keep up the math skills, play a variety of math games; you can find many at teacherspayteachers.com. Or, for those who enjoy coloring or if you don’t have as much time, encourage them to do one of the many color-by-number math sheets.
- Use all the digital resources we have provided this school year such as Freckle, XtraMath, Prodigy, Zearn, Dreamcape, and Epic!.
I hope these tips are beneficial to you and your child. Have a great summer!
Best wishes,
Mrs. Dvorak

Last Day of 3rd Grade Celebration:
Some have asked if we are celebrating our Last Day of 3rd Grade next week! We sure are! I've created a signup if you are able or willing to bring in something. Here is the link to the signup: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13OYL2HsN9L1h7h8JCDtzp7g4dfaEOAHD9coNuwWPWK4/edit?ts=5cdee11c#gid=0 We have had such a great year! Thanks for all of your continued support this year!
Shopping Day Success:
Thank you for all of your support today. The kids had a blast and our first Shopping Day was a success. Many of the students completely sold out of their items! Take a look at what they did!
Shopping Day:
On May 9th, students will put in practice what they have been learning this last quarter after AzMerit. They will put on their creative hats and create an item to sell on Shopping Day.
On Shopping Day you will be given pretend money, to go around the shops and buy items that students have created. As you pay for the item students will be able to practice their money skill and their ability to provide change. This will also give students the opportunity to be proud of their creation as they have interest in their creation.
Tonight have your child starts to brainstorm on the item that they will be creating to sell during Shopping Day (there are examples in the image). This item should be something they create and not just store bought. If needed part of their item can be store bought. We will be completing the brainstorm sheet in class.
One item will be due on Tuesday April 30th, for approval. For Shopping Day they will need several replicas of their item, allowing them to "sell" them during Shopping Day. The amount inventory they have to sell will be up to them, but it must be a minimum of 5.
In class students will work on the rest of the project, they will create a description of their item, a business plan, and advertisement for their item/store.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

GLOW DAY GAMES-
Dear Families,
The students have been working very hard in 3rd grade. As a way to celebrate completing Testing, we are going to celebrate with Glow Day Games! The students don't know SHHH!
What is a Glow Party?
It is a fun way to reinforce the skills and standards addressed in 3rd grade. Our class will experience math, reading, and thinking skills under the glow of black light and bright neon colors. Some activities that we will be doing are Math Bingo, Math Bowling, Tower Balancing, Ring Toss Facts, Highlighter Find, etc.
To set the stage and make the day even more exciting, please have your child wear neon or white on Friday, April 19th.
If you would like to come in on to help at a station, please contact me!
Also if you would like to donate any neon or glow in the dark materials (glow sticks, glue, highlighters, neon paint, etc.) to make the experience more fun please let me know.
Thank you,
Mrs. Dvorak
